Certificate III in Bricklayingand Blocklaying

This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.
Occupational titles could include:
1. Bricklayer
2. Blocklayer
3. Paver.
The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Education Pathway:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfer (CT)
Melbourne College of Business and Technology (MCBT) will offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) to all prospective students through the enrolment process. MCBT has documented policies and procedures for these processes and students are provided details of how to apply for RPL or Credit Transfer through the enrolment process. Entry Requirements International Students
Although there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, students enrolling in this course at MCBT must meet the following criteria:
English Language Requirement
- A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent qualification is required.
- For equivalent English language proficiency tests and other forms of equivalency, please refer to the student handbook.
OR
- Completion of a minimum of two (2) years of study at AQF Level 4 or higher in Australia.
Academic Requirement
- Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.
- For international students, satisfactory completion of studies in the applicant’s home country equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification is required for entry.
Age Requirement
- Students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement.
Pre-Enrolment Review
All learners will undertake an initial skills assessment to determine their suitability for the course and identify individual learning needs.
This review includes:
- Evaluation of previous education or training
- Relevance of the course to the learner’s goals
- Assessment of relevant work or life experience
The pre-enrolment review also helps identify:
- Required support services
- Potential Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or credit transfer opportunities
Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND)
- All students must complete an LLND assessment prior to enrolment.
- MCBT uses an LLND Robot platform to conduct the assessment.
The system:
- Compares the learner’s ACSF profile with course requirements
- Generates reports, training recommendations, and learning support plans
Hardware/Software Requirements
- Students are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with:
- Windows operating system
- Microsoft Office applications (e.g., MS Word)
- These resources are required for assessments, tasks, and self-study, and must be arranged at the student’s own cost.
- Where necessary, MCBT will provide access to computers/laptops with appropriate configurations on campus.
